With the Federal government working to award more contracts to HUBZone certified firms, an easier to use tool is needed to connect those firms with the contracts they qualify for.

Fearless’ HUBFinder is a one-stop platform for managing HUBZone needs. HUBFinder allows companies to track their compliance management, search for contracts and network with other HUBZone companies nearby.

Fearless founder Delali Dzirasa says he is excited to work on a project that has the ability to affect small businesses and their employees across the country. The Federal government targets 3% of small business contract dollars to HUBZone firms and has traditionally averaged about 1.9%. That one percent delta represents about a 8 billion dollar allocation of funding that is available to HUBZone firms.

“These companies are typically in underutilized areas with high unemployment and/or low income rates, HUBFinder has the potential to change not only the firms using it but the employees and neighborhoods associated with them,” Dzirasa said. “We are making it our national mission to help shift that 8 Billion dollars to the 8 million unemployed and 46 million below the poverty line.”

The tool was originally developed for internal use at Fearless but proved so successful it was expanded to small-business in Maryland, Washington D.C., and Virginia, and released for a National Beta at the HUBZone National Conference in 2015.

Fearless was recently awarded a multi year contract to now run all HUBZone technology Nationwide that leveraged existing experience and HUBZone expertise. While SBA will now be assuming several elements that were previously provided in HUBFinder, Fearless still plans to continue to independently run and operate the Connect Module of HUBFinder (which includes recruiting, opportunity matching, and real estate / facility matching) while beginning to port over other technology to SBA. All tools developed under this contract will be available for use by all HUBZone firms nationwide.

Dzirasa is excited to have been awarded the nationwide HUBZone modernization contract and looks forward to growing a relationship with SBA Digital Services, The HUBZone Program, and USDS. Fearless will be growing its development and user experience teams that will be housed out of the Fearless downtown Baltimore offices.

“The group we are working with at SBA is very forward thinking,” he said. “It’s exactly the way we want to work, It’s not the usual way that people think of working with the government. We went in selling Agile and DevOps and all heads were already nodding, they just get it, and that’s exciting.”
