With an estimated 28-30 million small businesses in the United States, there is a clear demand for an intuitive, customizable online experience to support the diverse needs of small business owners across the country. While SBA.gov has long provided the information and resources that both new and established small business owners require, they currently lack the kind of updated, personalized interface that would allow them to fully serve the unique demands of all small businesses in the nation, from florists to tech companies.

That’s where Fearless comes in.

Fearless Solutions has a knack for bold and seamless web design, and an established record of serving their community through innovative tech solutions. And with Fearless’s recent development of the HUBZone compliance and networking tool HUBFinder, expanding their efforts to support small businesses all across the country—not just those in Historically Underutilized Business Zones—seemed like the logical next step. This work on HUBFinder led to Fearless being awarded the HUBZone Map Modernization contract; the SBA.gov award represents the second contract Fearless has closed with SBA this year.

“HUBFinder helps us connect government shops with HUBZone companies, so this is just the next stage,” said Delali Dzirasa, founder and president of Fearless. “Now the question is bigger: How do we connect all the small businesses in the country to each other and to SBA?”

The Fearless team will offer a reimagined experience on SBA.gov by creating a series of underlying web apps to guide new and veteran small business owners every step of the way.

SBA.gov currently has, in Dzirasa’s words, an “encyclopedic” amount of useful information, so Fearless will work to build a new website that gives users exactly what they need, when they need it. This means creating a user-friendly and interactive platform that will help create personalized business plans, offer step-by-step guides on government contracting, facilitate matchmaking between financial institutions and businesses that need loans, and update current counseling services to include audio/video, online, and telephone guidance.

Fearless will work closely with SBA and other vendor teams to develop a collaborative approach in how best to serve the unique requirements of every small business owner in the United States, regardless of industry, urbanity/rurality, or the age of the company.

Dzirasa said the most exciting aspect of the SBA.gov revamp is the opportunity to help create a supportive network of small businesses across the country. For him, this project is about giving back to this community.

“Other business owners really helped us when we were first starting out,” he said. “Because of that, we really want to help enable peer-to-peer mentoring, networking, and relationship building.”

As a small business owner himself, Dzirasa knows that it’s difficult enough to manage the day-to-day tasks necessary to keep a business up and running, so he is dedicated to streamlining and automating the SBA’s online resources to allow entrepreneurs all across the country to focus on what’s really important: helping their company grow.

Fearless will be expanding their office space at Spark Baltimore to accommodate the new 7-person SBA.gov team, led by Stephanie Baggage (PM) and Jon King (Technical Lead) .  Dzirasa is excited to establish this project in Baltimore, where so much important history is based.

“Baltimore has such a rich history as a ‘City of Firsts’ with hard working citizens.  We felt no better place existed in the country to tap into a robust and diverse small business community and launch this nationwide program,” said Dzirasa.
