A recap of our 2017 Hooky day from the awesome Annie Barrow:
At Fearless, our employees work hard every day to build cutting edge software for our customers. To recognize our team’s hard work, we decided it was time for a much-deserved day off! Fearless recently had our first ever Hooky Day, and we invited all of our employees to meet up in Remington, Baltimore for a day of team-building and fun.
Fearless has more than doubled in size in the past year, and we’re lucky to have so many amazing people at the company. While about half of our employees work in our offices at Spark, many members of the Fearless family work remotely or off-site, giving us few opportunities to come together as a team. Hooky Day was our way of putting work aside, getting a chance to get to know each other better, and celebrating all the wonderful new people who have joined the Fearless team.
We started our day off at Single Carrot Theatre, where local comedian Moose Garrett and our very own Crystal Coache brought us together for a few ice-breakers. These activities were a great opportunity for us all to learn some fun facts about our team (bet you didn’t know that Fearless’ President, Delali Dzirasa, was once a medalist in the Junior Olympics!) and get to know each other better.
After taking a quick break, each person got to join a class of their choice: improv or Hip-Hop dance! Though everyone was a little intimidated at first, they quickly got into the groove and showed off their comedic and rhythmic chops.
The improv team got together for some rapid-fire scenarios, and the Hip-Hop crew learned some new moves from the co-founder of the Baltimore Dance Crews Project, Cynthia Chavez.
Both groups cooled off with an optional BYOBeer Tasting, and then it was off to the main event: laser tag!
Hooky Day was a great way for us to welcome the newest members of the Fearless family to the team. Taking some time off to sit down (or dance!) with each other is an important way of building our relationship as a company, and we’re grateful that so many members of team Fearless were able to get together and represent the purple!
