We are always on the lookout for ways to help develop future leaders in tech. We like to work on projects that help young people, like the Billion Oyster Project, and Sierra Seabrese is our rock star intern who is enrolling at the University of Maryland, College Park this fall.
We also look to foster the tech community’s future leaders outside the office. For several years Fearless has been a part of the AFCEA Central Maryland Chapter. The non-profit professional organization is a great way for folks in our universe to connect and learn from one another but we are most proud of the work AFCEA does for others.
Fearless partner/programs manager/senior software developer John Foster serves as the vice president for Small Business for the local AFCEA chapter.
“This year we’ll award close to $400,000, primarily focused on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math or STEM programs within the context of the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community,” John said.
Recently John threw out the first pitch at the Bowie BaySox game for STEM Day, AFCEA was the host. And the central Maryland chapter of AFCEA held their annual Awards night and presented 18 scholarship to graduating high school seniors, along with several scholarships for college students.
We’re getting the whole Fearless family together to support the work AFCEA does and it invite you to join us. We’ll be running the 10th Annual AFCEA Central Maryland Race for Excellent: 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run on Saturday June 10th.
“The 5K is one of the events that raises money for STEM events and scholarships,” John said. “These events really make a difference in people’s lives. With these events the FCEA can award individual scholarships for college, give grants to teachers for tool kits for STEM-based exercises, and sponsor events like the BaySox STEM day.”
